Week 4

This week was one I stuggled with most I seem to be at a stand still. I found my hats but I need the prices so I know what I need to fundrais. I wasn't anticipating this part would take so long. The next step for me is to make the money for the first order of hats and then market and sell them to interested costumers. I was brainstorming fundraising but I've been coming up with nothing I need something quick and simple but effective I really wish I had an investor that could lead me more. They're May be opertunities for that so I might send a few email this week to people I think might be interested. Please let me know if you all know anyone you think might be interested!! Id love to speak with them. This week I will also  brainstorm marketing idea and website designs. I've got a lot to do but even now I'm starting to learn about the process of beginning a company. I can't wait to get moving more these next few weeks and  start seeing results for my work.

Week 3

This week I started to talk to my embroiderer and she's been very helpful. I starting to make more decisions, such as we've decided that we are going to start with a sample few hats then see how I like them and how I can improve them. Then we go on to a larger order. She said she thinks that we can find colors similar to these.

I need to negotiate prices on all this because I still need funds. All this is very conceptual now I really just need to get down to the actual buying and selling. I also plan to talk to this family friend about helping me with a website because that is how I'd like to do most of the business.  So as you can see I have a lot of work to do but so far so good.

Week 2

So here's an update! I officially have an embroider, she makes all the embroidering for the Detroit Boat Club Crew. She also has connection with hat manufactures from mid-Michigan, which is great because keeping jobs in the United States is really important. Also a family friend offered to give me her monograming machine. I don't know how to use it but if I could learn it would drop the cost of my hats dramatically. Cost is really what I'm most scared of because I want to raise the money my self. I really worried I won't be able to launch anything without funds. Most of all I'm worried about going in to dept and not succeeding. I've been coming up with some marketing ideas and Ocean "catch"phrases. Here is a picture of the logo I have been working on! What do you think? So when the hats are made only the crossing fish hooks will be on the front with the name across the back.

I really believe in this, I can not wait to keep working on my project this week.

The Beginning!

For my twenty time project I am creating a baseball hat business called Ocean Catch Apparel. My business will donate 65 percent of all profits to Feeding America my goal is to donate a some of money by the end of this project. That may sound simple but that means I must create the company and have it be profitable in a matter of months. I'm so excited for this challenge. I made my logo last week!! It's a rope crest with crossing fish hooks and a blue fish below. On my hats I want just the crossing fish hooks. I found an embroider, she's a friend of my mom's and she's really good. Also I have four hats that are really simple colors that I was about to buy but I'm not in love with the polyester material. However, I was searching on Etsy, a website that allows people to sell their homemade goods, and found all these hats in amazing colors. I sent the owner an email asking where she got them and I am anticipating a response.  I really need to fundraiser right now because I have to purchase a website and maintain it, buy the hats, have them embroider, and spend money on advertising and marketing. I really need ideas, but the hard part is finding the time to fundraise. I really wanted to make a Kickstarter. A Kickstarter would have been really helpful, the basic idea of it is that they allow business owner to put themselves in the eyes of people that would likely donate, but they have a rule against companies that donate to charities. So I've got some obstacles but  I really think I will learn a lot through doing this. I hope you will come along for the ride!!
